Mark and most of the 2005 riders by the official pace car

A family and friends MS150 cycling team (established 2002)

Ordinary people are taking extraordinary challenges to make a difference in the world. This year, 75,000 people will ride in an MS Bike Tour somewhere in the US. Locally, over 6500 riders and 1000+ volunteers participated in the 25th Anniversary MS 150 City to Shore Bike Tour on September 24 and 25, the best MS 150 on the East Coast.

The ride is fully supported with catered rest stops, bike support and SAG transportation. In addition, Veteran New Anchor Larry Kane hosts the Awards ceremony on Saturday night. Cyclists collect a minimum of $250 in donations in order to participate.

Click on the calendar to view our Mark's Tsunami Riders 2005 calendar which features highlights from last year's ride.

Our photos from our Yard Sale, Riders' party and the 2005 MS150 Bike Tour. For a simpler to navigate slide show view (but without the "witty" captions) click on any link above, or click on any of the pictures below for a larger image (and use the back button on your browser to return to this photo gallery.)

Our Charity Yard Sale - not one of our most elaborate signs, but keep those donations coming!

Our Charity Yard Sale - one man's trash is another man's treasure!

Our Charity Yard Sale - most popular items - exercise equipment, tools and purses. Go figure!

Our Charity Yard Sale - as always, Lydia, the official greeter!

Our Charity Yard Sale - remind you of WalMart?

Our Charity Yard Sale - Scott and Betty deep in conversation while Betty models our new Team T-shirt.

Cheryl, Betty, and Rich in a group hug - can't you just feel the love?

Lorrie taking one of her infamous self-portraits. (Van Gogh - you have no competition to worry about, although she does have both her ears!)

Betty proudly displaying her Rider #1 identification (for being the largest individual fundraiser last year)

Looks like Lorrie's drafting rider #1. (Betty's wondering why pedaling's getting so hard!)

Betty always finds a stray! He took a tumble earlier which would have put us adults in the ER. He just got back on his bike!

Moon over Ocean City (not quit the same ring as Moon over Miami, but that would have been a really really really long ride!)

John trying to get Cheryl to consume something with more than 0 calories. Cheryl's not "biting".

Extreme close-up of Mark, Betty and Lorrie. (That's why SLRs have Macro lenses!)

I always wanted to write this - Clockwise from the left: Chris, Mark, Betty, Lorrie, John, Cheryl, Leon, and Rich (how journalistic sounding is that?)

Lots of riders and at rest stop

Marj's shots from the recumbent all look so peaceful and relaxing. Who are those annoying cyclists up ahead?

More cyclists with sore butts while Marj comfortably recumbs (is that a word) along?

Fund Raising Status
WE SURPASSED OUR $50,000 GOAL BY RAISING OVER $63,125 (as of November 17th)!

And check out the official MS150 fact sheet where we ranked 8th in the TOP 25 FUNDRAISING TEAMS category!!!!

Our team fundraising goal this year was $40,000, but having surpassed that goal in early September, we upped the team goal to $50,000. But it only took us until September 30th to surpass this new goal with an entire month to go before the final totals were tallied! The final totals in late November were a new team record of 63,125!!

A note to our individual and corporate sponsors

At the completion of the 2005 MS 150 City to Shore bike tour, we would like to say thank you to our repeat sponsors for your unwavering support and welcome our new sponsors. In addition to many new individual contributors, we increased our corporate sponsorship (via mile markers, sponsor logos on Team T-shirts, etc. ) from 6 last year to 14!)

We also did additional fundraising with the new MS Teddy Bears - a big success.

This is another exciting year for us on our journey in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. This year, we grew our team, Mark's Tsunami Riders, with last day entries to nineteen riders (as well as additional co-riders from other teams) and nine volunteers. But more importantly, due to your generous donations, we had another banner year in our team fund raising efforts!

Charity Yard Sale

On September 10th and 11th we held a charity yard sale with all proceeds benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Items that didn't sell were donated to the Salvation Army.

Company Matching Gift Programs

Many of our riders' and contributors' employers support company matching gift programs. Some matches have been processed, but many will come later in the year, dramatically increasing our already astounding fundraising totals!

Meet The Riders Party

As is our tradition one week before the ride, on Sunday,  September 18th, we held the annual "Meet the Riders" party where over 40 riders, volunteers, and sponsors had an opportunity to meet in person and start to carb load for the ride (even the volunteers and sponsors!) As usual, we had enough food for this year's and next year's parties combined. Liz Spruyt and Kristin Turner, event coordinators from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, also paid us a visit in one of the official NMSS MS150 pace cars - a great backdrop for a team photo.

Pedal Partners Program In addition to riding for our sponsors, we have been adopted by a host of "Pedal Partners". Our riders proudly wore their bandanas throughout the two day event. Click here for more information on the Pedal Partners Program. Every bandana was important, but a few of special note included one signed by the entire Blue Bell MS Hope Club support group, another that was magically transformed into a beautiful piece of artwork by local artist Mike Hale, and one that was signed for our team by actress Teri Garr.

The 2005 MS150 City to Shore Bike Tour Ride day arrived with an improved weather forecast. Predictions for Saturday called for a high of 73, clouds and sunshine, and a 10 mph breeze from the ENE. Sunday called for a high of 75, clouds and sunshine, and a 5 mph breeze from the SSE.  The weather forecast was accurate - no rain and moderate temperatures, but of course a headwind in both directions!
